Expedition – twist in hull

  Hello,

  I made a plumb line using an old yellow paintbrush, and use it to examine the bow and stern.

  It shows a significant skew between bow and stern.

  I have completed all the work inside the hull (fillet+3” tape, fillet along bulkheads, fillet inside stems, coating all surfaces with epoxy) so I don’t expect I can muscle my way out of this.

  Q1 – is this a big issue – will I bin what I have and start again?

  Q2 – is it a small issue – fit a skeg??

  Q3 – can I ignore it and continue – will it trip me up later when trying to fit decks and out-riggers?

  Hello Tony,

  The good news is you should be okay with this.  It's surprising how much twist boats can have while having very little impact on performance.  From an aesthetic performance, nobody will notice unless they are really looking carefully.  Decks and other bits will simply conform to boat shape.  I know it can be frustrating, when the hull isn't perfect, but most of the little imperfections will disappear from your mind once you're out on the water.  I would definitely continue on with it, and soon you'll have a fun fantastic boat.
