CNC - Cut Kits for Angus Rowboat's Customers Outside of North America

by Julie Angus

Our boat kits are shipped from the PNW, and delivered to customers in the US and Canada.  Due to prohibitive shipping costs, we do not ship our boat kits outside of North America.  Building from plans is one alternative, however, some would prefer to build from a kit.

A suitable alternative is to purchase plans for the boat including the CNC cut files and having the pieces cut at a local CNC shop.  Below are a couple of options for international builders

Europe: Fyne Boat Kits: Fyne boats specializes in stitch and glue boat construction, and they have all the supplies and materials to build your boat.  They are based in the north of England. You can simply send them your CNC files, and they will cut your kit with their own okoume wood stock.  Additionally, they stock epoxy, fiberglass and most other supplies required, so you can get everything you want at one spot.   Just send through your CNC files and your materials list, and voila, your kit is ready to be picked up.

Alternatively, Fyne boats will ship for a reasonable price throughout Europe.  For a rough ball park in pricing, in 2023  the cost for an Expedition Boat to be cut (including wood) was £900, and just under £300 for shipping to Norway.  To get an accurate quote, contact them at: Old Cooperage Yard, Gatebeck, Kendal, Cumbria LA8 0HW,Telephone: +44 (0)1539 567, 148Email: info@fyneboatkits.co.uk

Australia Denman Marine – Denman Marine is the Australian version of Fyne boats, and they do both CNC cutting and stock okoume plywood. As with Fyne boats, they specialize in CNC small boat kits, and are very knowledgeable.  Contact info: https://www.denmanmarine.com.au/ Denman Marine Pty Ltd ATF | ABN: 54779786053 | 2888 Channel Highway Kettering, Tasmania 7155

Other Locations:

There are CNC operators around the world capable of cutting the plywood components that comprise our kits.  If you are able to source good quality okoume plywood and a reliable CNC shop, you’re off to a good start.  On our builder’s forum, we’ve invited customers to list CNC operators from around the world whom they’ve had good experiences with.  Another page lists retailers of okoume plywood.  These resources will be helpful for anyone looking for CNC cutting.

Plans:

Remember, cutting from plans is also a very effective way of bringing a boat to life.  While the prospect of CNC-cut parts is often very enticing, plans will do the job just as well.  It is a very straightforward process cutting the shapes from our full-sized paper plans, and only adds two or three days to the build.  It’s also reliable.  Painful mistakes can be made with CNC cutting with operators that don’t know their equipment, or don’t spend the time to do the job properly.  If in doubt, or it’s a struggle to make CNC happen, my advice would be to simply proceed with full-sized plans.  Our plans are economically shipped worldwide.

Human Powered Achievements through the Northwest Passage
Human Powered Achievements through the Northwest Passage

At Angus Rowboats, our passion for adventure naturally draws us to the mystique of the Northwest Passage – one of the world's most captivating and perilous waterways. Historically, this elusive passage promised a shorter shipping route, spurring early navigators to fervently chart and struggle through its icy intricacies.

The summer of 2023 saw three audacious teams, including one using our very own RowCruiser boats, aiming to be the first to traverse NW Passage solely by human power within a single season. As the season concludes, we've chronicled these attempts, and catalogued past human-powered endeavors to navigate the Northwest Passage.

Creating a Bookcase from a Boat

A good boat is a versatile boat.  Our wheelbarrow boat is good in and out of the water.  It can be used to haul bags of concrete around the construction site, is a vehicle to go crabbing with the kids, or it can be transformed into an elegant bookcase.

Wheelbarrow Dinghy Comes to Life
Wheelbarrow Dinghy Comes to Life

by Colin Angus

In 1987, a pilot by the name of Robert Plath invented a new kind of suitcase - the Rollaboard.  It had two wheels and a rigid stowaway handle.  While a pretty basic concept, it was revolutionary compared to what already existed (suitcases four wheels and leash that always fell over), and now almost every suitcase is designed in his style.

We feel that the Wheelbarrow Dinghy is to the world of boats that the Rollaboard is to suitcases...
